The RAC has warned that UK motorists face unexpected breakdowns due to 'bad' diesel ebing sold on the forecourt.

EU regulations has seen both diesel and petrol mixed with an increase in environmentally friendly biofuels - but experts believe it is these biofuels that could be behind a build up of thick gel in engines. Breakdown services such as the RAC has seen an increase in call-outs due to blocked engine filters - with 600 such incidents in the last month, up from 280 similar incidents in November 2012.

Only diesel engines seem to be affected, and incidents have been concentrated in the north east of the UK - leading experts to believe the problem is caused by the effect of cold weather on biofuels.
